What inputs are available on your hdtv? There should be a composite input, which looks to be the best you can get without modding your console (but I'm not sure about that). -- UC can't spell justice without UC |

I had no clue the Sega Genesis could do composite. Or maybe I did and it's been so long since I plugged one in. -- Go and buy a new PS3 game and a new 360 game and I challenge you to smell them and tell me which is best. -- Gietzy |

Back in the old days when I used my Genesis, I don't believe I had the coaxial connection, I had some strange connection that involved a couple of strange pieces of metal that were shaped like a U that you had to sort of 'screw in' to the back of my VCR. I'm sure those connections had an actual name, but I'm not sure what it is. -- I am as far beyond mutants as they are beyond you! I am eternal! (Apocalypse) |

I actually don't know what they're called either but I think they're antenna leads. I only saw those in hindsight. I never had to deal with hooking things up using those during my lifetime. -- What can I do to get sued by Sony? |

Are you guys talking about RF switches? From what I've read, your best bet for picture quality and compatibility with a modern TV would be composite cables. -- UC can't spell justice without UC |

If you have a 32X and CD addon, you basically use the yellow video cable from your 32X, the stereo red and white from your CD, and connect the Genesis (model 1 only) to the Sega CD with a mixer cable to get stereo sound. -- Generic Signature. |

From: jobb_UC | #012 Actually, that would be RGB run through a SCART RGB to Component transcoder. It's pricy, but it is the best way to technically get the best possible picture out of the Genesis. I have one such setup for the SNES, and... well, it looked GLORIOUS until the component inputs on my SDTV crapped out and I was forced to move down to S-video... which still looks great, actually. -- "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it." -George Bernard Shaw |

You can also mod your Genesis to have an S-Video port. -- Generic Signature. |

From: Romaji | #017 Eh, I'd still recommend the transcoder method. RGB is superior to S-video, and does not involve modding, since the Genesis can output RGB out of the box. Only reason to go for S-video would be if you only have a TV that does S-video but not component. -- "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it." -George Bernard Shaw |
